The Devil's Kitchen

29 July 2025 - Eryri National Park, United Kingdom

The Devil's Kitchen is a crack going up the mountain between Y Garn and Glyder Fawr. The Welsh name for Devil’s Kitchen is Twll Du, meaning ‘black hole’. We decided to go partially up it.

Starting out from a car park next to Llyn Ogwen, we walked up to Llyn Idwal. This is where the rain really started, and from here on I got very wet.

Some rocks in a misty lake
The view from the lake sure of Llyn Idwal. It was so wet and foggy you could not see very far!

The further up we got, the more barren and rocky the train became. However, every so often you would get a glimpse of color on the ground or as the cloud parted to revel the sky.

Despite the harsh terrain, there where some vibrant foliage.

This photo of our group was taken by the wonderful phtographer Ned Helyar.

The one plus with The Devil's Kitchen being a crack is it meant that there were lots of rocks to shelter us from the rain as we ate lunch. After that we headed down, walking around the other side of Llyn Idwal.
